5. Onomatopoeias
In case you don't know, onomatopoeias are those words that sound like the word it is. Like "achoo" or animal noises. Onomatopoeias never cease to amaze me. I mean seriously how cool is it that we can say ZIP and that's what a zipper sounds like??? orrrr an hoots and it sounds like HOOT????????????????????????????????
My all time favorite onomatopoeia is Boing. Or maybe oof. Or maybe boingoof. Both of those are ridiculously fun to say. Seriously. Just sit there and going BOING BOING BOING BOING and you cannot help but giggle a little. (Giggle is a strange onomatopoeia. Like bark- the noise a dog makes. It counts but I feel like their not real, since that's not exactly a literal sound. So I call them onomats instead.)
PLUS lots of onomatopoeias are different in different languages (especially animal noises). Which is a HYSTERICAL concept to my brain, considering the definition of an onomatopoeia!
Finally another awesome thing about onomatopoeia is that because I have so far typed the word 6 times, I can now spell a strange sounding word that hardly looks at all like how you say it. Once again, just the nerd in me coming out.
